  The scenic beauty of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Marl Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. There's camping available near Marl Creek. The roadside Route 706 section of Marl Creek in Rockbridge County is 0.2 miles long
    and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This stretch is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. The starting point is not too far from Lynchburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this  
river system, there are a few others too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots.

Briefly about the general area:
During your spree to Marl Creek you'll meet some folks from Buena Vista for sure. Going for a hike along the Rocky Row Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. While you're here at Marl Creek you can take a hike along the Jump Rock Trail. The amount of precipitation that falls at Marl Creek is close to the national average. Of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain; January is when it's the driest.
