This section of Maury River in Virginia is 32 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II(III) section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state     you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because   it is a very popular destination. The Rockbridge Baths to James River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Briefly about the general area: You're sure to bump into some cheerful folks from Lexington here, and a good site to take a look at close by is Polecat Hollow. But wait, there's more enjoyable stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a tremendous hiking trail near Maury River called the Rocky Row Trail; going for a hike on the Balcony Falls Trail is always a fine adventure. This river is so good. From a precipitation point of view Maury River is a rather common site.
