Virginia whitewater, Mill Creek Rockbridge county, Route 42 Wayside to Goshen section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     7.5 miles   The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of Rockbridge County and the water flowing gracefully down Mill Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle,     suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The Route 42 Wayside to Goshen stretch of Mill Creek in Rockbridge County is 7.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Panther   Gap is near Mill Creek and is a good location, and lots of people from Goshen come here. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Mill Creek; Old Bridge Trail is a glorious local trail. There's good hiking along the Gochenour Hunter Access Trail. During the summertime months, highs frequently are in the 80's at Mill Creek, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while the cold winter nights at Mill Creek are in the 10's. Lots of precipitation falls at Mill Creek. The month with most of the rain is July while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
