  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all
    set. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section of North River in Virginia is 26 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American
Whitewater. The campgrounds here at North River are pretty good. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The scenic beauty of Augusta County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.

Briefly about the general area:
If
 
you're visiting North River from Mount Solon, you won't be the only one; you can go for a hike on the Narrow Buck Trail. There are glorious places to look at along the Narrow Back Trail. North River is a good place of normal rainfall. Throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is January. High temperatures at North River during the long summer days are in the 80's while night lows are typically in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's; nighttime lows at North River through the wintertime regularly sink into the 10's.
