The nature scenery of Craig/ Alleghany County and the water flowing gracefully down Potts Creek are reasons enough     to come here and paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch of Potts Creek in Craig/ Alleghany County is 32.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-IV section. The Route 311 to Route 18 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches   in this river system. Briefly about the general area: If you want to explore some exciting stuff, explore Piney Point. The Potts Arm Trail offers hiking at its best; you might also want to pay a visit to Margaret Hollow while you're here at Potts Creek. This river is so great. Going to Jefferson National Forest right next door to Potts Creek is a magnificent thing to do; there's great hiking along the Cove Trail. Potts Creek is a place with many visitors from Covington; a tour to Greenbrier State Forest when you're here is never a bad idea. Summertime highs at Potts Creek usually tend to be in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's.
