The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but     if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. This stretch of Pound River is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II(III) section of whitewater. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.   The starting location is a reasonable drive from Kingsport-Bristol, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well visit Fay Hollow, and Skegg Hole is very near and is a tremendous location to go to. This location, the Cumberland Plateau Mountains, has so much outdoors fun stuff. People from Haysi love to come to Pound River; Breaks Interstate Park. is a nice spot to pop by on a beautiful day. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Pine Mountain Trail.
