The scenic beauty of Dickenson County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch is mid     length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Prater to Haysi stretch is one of them. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and just being out   on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. If you want a fine time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. The high level of rainfall makes Prater Creek a quite wet place.
