Says George Beach this is a fun stretch of whitewater. i have run numerous times and have enjoyed it every time i would recomend it for anyone. it has a few class 2-3 ledges that are lots of fun and uncountable gravel bars and small rock gardens....near the end there is a nice way to end your trip with a swimming hole complete     with a rope swing and all!!!! Says Jeremy If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The scenic beauty of Madison County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a short drive from Charlottesville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Syria to Locust Dale section of Robinson River is 19 miles long and is a class II+ section   of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The Syria to Locust Dale stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag.
