The put-in is not too far from Charlottesville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Rose River beats anything. This section of Rose River in Madison County is 2 miles long     and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The campgrounds here at Rose River are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few   others too. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Rose River without first going for a hike along the Rose River Trail, and this is a popular site for people from Syria. There are good sites to look at along the Cedar Run Trail, and Shenandoah National Park is a pleasant national park. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Summertime highs at Rose River regularly tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Rose River dip into the 20's.
