CLASS II-III     6 miles
  The Washington to Rock Mills stretch of Rush River in Rapahannock County is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The starting location is a short drive from Winchester, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page
    so you won’t get lost. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. There's camping available near Rush River. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Washington to Rock Mills stretch is one of them. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and  
the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far.

Briefly about the general area:
The smiling folks of Washington like to hang out nearby, and there's good hiking along the Bluff Trail. Shenandoah River Andy Guest State Park is a splendid place to explore on a beautiful day, and splendid hiking is available along the The Peak Trail. This is a really good river. The amount of rainfall that falls at Rush River is close to the national average. The month with most of the rain is July while February is frequently the driest month. High temperatures at Rush River during the warm days of summer are in the 80's while overnight lows are commonly in the 60's.
