The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The Headwaters to Liberty section of Shaws Fork in Virginia is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American     Whitewater as a class II-III section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Headwaters to Liberty section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. The scenic beauty of Highland County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Wilson Hollow is a great place to take a look   at nearby; do take a hike on the Benson Run Trail. While you're here at Shaws Fork you will meet lots of folks from close by Head Waters. Hiking along the Shenandoah Mountain Trail is good fun. Shaws Fork is a good place of normal rain. Most of the rain falls during July; the driest month is January. Through the summertime months at Shaws Fork highs are generally in the 70's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Shaws Fork temperatures descend to the 10's.
