This section of Shoe Creek is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside     this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The campgrounds here at Shoe Creek are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: There's pleasant hiking along the White Rock Gap Trail, and you're sure to bump into some smiling folks from Montebello   here. Cash Hollow is a glorious place to spend some time at, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Wintergreen. This river has it all. Don't leave Shoe Creek without first going for a hike along the Tolley Gap Trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Shoe Creek a wet site. October is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is January. At Shoe Creek throughout the summertime months highs are in the 80's while overnight lows are typically in the 60's. Highs all through the winter are typically in the 40's while Shoe Creek overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 10's.
