  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. The Truckstop to Route 60 stretch of Simpson Creek in Alleghany County is 6.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great.
    A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The starting point is not too far from Roanoke, there's a road map
further down the page with more info on that. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Truckstop to Route 60 section is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because  
it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip.

Briefly about the general area:
Hiking is a popular thing to do around Simpson Creek; White Rock Tower Trail is a delightful local trail. A trip to Douthat State Park rejuvenates the soul; you'll in all probability meet some folks from Iron Gate here. This river is so great. Why not take a refreshing hike along the North Branch Trail, and why not head up to The Homestead and strap some skis to your feet. Simpson Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall. The wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
