  The Rt. 638 to Route 619 section of South River - Rapidan Tributary in Virginia is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Charlottesville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. A bit of exercise and just
    being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Rt. 638 to Route 619 stretch is one of them. Since you're on this site you are
probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are  
pretty easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Going for a hike along the Pocosin Hollow Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. People from Stanardsville love to come to South River - Rapidan Tributary, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Pocosin Trail. At this river you will always have a good time. If you're interested in cool geologic traits, try Octonia Park. From a rainfall point of view South River - Rapidan Tributary is a quite common place.
