Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This stretch of Wilson Creek in Virginia is 7.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. This stretch is mid     length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The put-in is not too far from Roanoke, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Douthat Park Dam to Jackson River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: Lots of folks from Clifton Forge come to Wilson Creek, and Wilson Creek   is close to Douthat State Park which is a beautiful location. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby The Homestead; going for a hike on the Brushy Hollow Trail is always a perfect adventure. A river like this is too good to miss. A great site to visit near Wilson Creek is McGraw Hollow, and there are good places to look at along the Beards Gap Trail. High temperatures at Wilson Creek all through the months of summer are in the 80's, and the overnight is fairly colder of course, frequently in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Wilson Creek.
