The Old Bridge to Middle Satsop section of Baker Creek is 1.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The nature scenery of Mason County County and the water flowing gracefully down Baker Creek make the trip     here worthwhile. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Old Bridge to Middle Satsop section is one of them. If you're coming from Shelton it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a somewhat short section so you'd   better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Schafer State Park is a splendid place, and Baker Creek is a location with many visitors from Matlock. Having a great time in the Olympic Mountains is trouble-free. Olympic National Forest is a great location to pop by. All through the months of summer at Baker Creek highs are regularly in the 70's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. All through the wintertime highs are regularly in the 40's; nighttime lows during the winter for Baker Creek tend to be in the 30's.
