CLASS III     2.5 miles
  The natural beauty of Washington and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The along FR 5270 section of Butter Creek is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The starting location is a short drive from Hood River, as you can see on the road map further down. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of
    people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery.
There's camping available near Butter Creek. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the along FR 5270 stretch is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This stretch is short so  
better bring some good walking shoes.

Briefly about the general area:
The smiling folks of Packwood like to hang out close by, and going for a hike along the Skyline Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. If you have a thing about the outdoors you'll have a thing about it here in the Northern Cascade Range. Have a good hiking adventure along the Tatoosh Trail. A great deal of precipitation falls at Butter Creek. January is the month that gets the most snow, and the driest of the months is July. For the duration of the warmest time of the year highs here at Butter Creek reach the 70's while overnight lows are generally in the 40's.
