Washington whitewater, Cedar River

King county, Landsburg bridge to Maplewood Roadside Park section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     15.5 miles

We put in at Maplewood Roadside Park to float to Lake Washington. Water was crystal clear, and most of the length had trees giving lots of shade. Occasional areas of Class II and submerged driftwood were interspersed with very shallow (2 - 3'') stretches. Occasional fishermen were friendly. The last bit widens and deepens, with several areas for take out, and is bordered by the local airport. There are a lot of areas to paddle to once out
    on Lake Washington. Says Kevin

The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The natural beauty of Washington and the water
flowing gracefully down Cedar River have people coming here. This stretch of Cedar River in King County is 15.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here
are not suitable for beginners. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Flaming Geyser State Park is both nice and delightful, and it's right next door to Cedar River, and a perfect beach close by is Rosemont Beach.
