Washington whitewater, Chehalis River

Lewis county, Pe Ell to Doty section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     6 miles
The Pe Ell to Doty section of Chehalis River in Washington is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Washington and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget
that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty
of places for that. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Olympia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Pe Ell to Doty stretch is just one of many. The nearby hotels
are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
There are plenty of people from Pe Ell here at Chehalis River. Rainbow Falls State Park is a good site to stretch your legs a bit, and no need to travel far to have a look at attention-grabbing stuff like Jones Bluff. This river is so good. The high level of precipitation makes Chehalis River a reasonably wet location. December is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July. Through the summer months, highs regularly are in the 70's at Chehalis River, and through the night it cools down to the 50's.
