Washington whitewater, Cispus River

Lewis county, FR 23 Bridge to FR 28 Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III+(IV)     9.5 miles

Hello I was coming up to stay at Paradise Creek with my son. I have a two seater kayak that I want to use, Where is a good place to go that has calm water? Any help would be great . Thanks Says Rick Green

The put-in is not too far from Hood River, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Washington scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This
section of Cispus River in Lewis County is 9.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III+(IV) section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the FR 23 Bridge to FR 28 Bridge stretch is just one of many. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere,
so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
Gifford Pinchot National Forest is both glorious and scenic, and it's in close proximity to Cispus River; there is a glorious hiking trail nearby called the Klickitat Trail. That right there is a load of fun stuff already but it goes on, the Northern Cascade Range has it all.
