Washington whitewater, Cle Elum River

Kittitas county, Salmon La Sac Creek to Cle Elum Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     4 miles
The Salmon La Sac Creek to Cle Elum Reservoir stretch of Cle Elum River is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. If you're coming from Ellensburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Kittitas County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here
to paddle. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Salmon La Sac Creek to
Cle Elum Reservoir section is just one of many. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might
be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

Briefly about the general area:
If you're here at Cle Elum River, checking out China Point is a must. Iron Horse State Park is a glorious location to have a look at, and there are plenty of people from Easton here at Cle Elum River. This river has it all. Take a hike on the Davis Peak Lookout Trail, and Salmon la Sac is always fun to check out. Cle Elum River is right by the Red Mountain Trail, and Little Salmon la Sac is a perfect local attraction.
