Washington whitewater, Coal Creek Cowlitz county, East Fork to Harmony Dr. section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III+(IV)     4.5 miles   This section of Coal Creek is 4.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Cowlitz County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. There's camping available near Coal Creek. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit     to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the East Fork to Harmony Dr. section is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Longview-Kelso, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery.   This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Briefly about the general area: Going to Seaquest State Park next to Coal Creek is a good thing to do; Goose Hollow is another pleasant spot to stop at close by. You definitely should have a thing about the Olympic Mountains. You have to beyond doubt go to pretty Dibblees Beach while you're here at Coal Creek; lots of people from Longview come here. This river has so much to offer. If you want to hit the beach, Red Mill Beach is in the vicinity. Coal Creek is a reasonably wet place generally with lots of rainfall.
