  The Lava Creek to La Wis Wis Campground section of Cowlitz River - Clear Fork in Lewis County is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The scenic beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Cowlitz River - Clear Fork will make you feel
    great. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. The put-in location is a short drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A good workout and
just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Lava Creek to La Wis Wis Campground section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. This stretch has has enough  
mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots.

Briefly about the general area:
Palisades is something you shouldn't miss if you're here at Cowlitz River - Clear Fork; you can go for a hike on the Backbone Ridge Trail. Just can't get enough of the Northern Cascade Range. What would winter be without some skiing at White Pass; going for a hike on the Three Peaks Trail is always a fine adventure. This is such a wonderful river. A journey to Ayance Canyon is always fun; you'll meet a lot of people from Packwood here.
