There are kind of 3 streches... the first requires a rappel in and is wicked... been done twice that I know of.. Then a death canyon... Then a strech that we have a first D on, and I'd still call it class 6... then a good run about class 5...Know your putin!
Says Travisimo
The nature scenery of Washington and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hood River, please |
print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The to Cowlitz River section of Cowlitz River - Muddy Fork is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section.
| Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget | |

that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have
a lot of people coming here. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Crystal
Mountain since you're here. This is a popular spot for folks from Packwood, and there's delightful hiking along the Tatoosh Trail. Coming to this river is always a good idea.
