Washington whitewater, Downey Creek

Snohomish county, Downey Creek trail to Suiattle River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     1 miles
The Downey Creek trail to Suiattle River section of Downey Creek in Washington is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Snohomish County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The
starting location is a short drive from Mount Vernon-Anacortes, as you can see on the road map further down. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good
places for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here at Downey Creek are pretty good. This stretch is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're
visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great plus for this river.

Briefly about the general area:
There's great hiking along the Sulphur Mountain Way, and the Meadow Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Northern Cascade Range. High temperatures at Downey Creek throughout the summer are in the 70's, and the nighttime is somewhat chillier of course, commonly in the 50's. All through the wintertime highs are frequently in the 30's while Downey Creek overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 30's.
