Washington whitewater, Duckabush River

Jefferson county, 2515 Bridge to Highway 101 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV     6.2 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Shelton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The 2515 Bridge to Highway 101 section of Duckabush River is 6.2 miles long and has been determined by
American Whitewater to be a class IV section. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day
paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful scenery of Jefferson County and the water flowing gracefully down Duckabush River attract people from near and far. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very
popular destination. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the 2515 Bridge to Highway 101 section is one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Beaches are good; and Scenic Beach near Duckabush River is no exception, and Duckabush River is right next door to Pleasant Harbor State Park which is a lovely location. All the outdoors fun stuff in the Olympic Mountains will keep you coming back over and over. This is a popular place for people from Brinnon; Dosewallips State Park is a splendid spot to stretch your legs a bit.
