Washington whitewater, Dungeness River

Clallam county, Dungeness Forks Campground to hatchery section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     5.5 miles
If you're coming from Shelton it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Dungeness River is 5.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The nature scenery of Clallam County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons
enough to come here and paddle. The Dungeness Forks Campground to hatchery section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Olympic Mountains
scenery is wonderful. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve
in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
Here at Dungeness River you'll probably meet some folks from Sequim, and places like Sequim Bay State Park are good to explore. Yeah, come up here to the Olympic Mountains for a good time. While you're here at Dungeness River you can take a hike along the Clink Trail, and on a great day you can take a hike along the Tubal Cain Mine Trail. This is a great river.
