If you're coming from Port Angeles it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. at Elwha River you will meet lots of people from close by Port Angeles. Going for a hike on the Long Ridge Trail is always a good adventure. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Hurricane Ridge Ski Lodge.
There is a wonderful hiking trail in the neighborhood of Elwha River called the Lillian River Trail. Don't miss out on a tour to Olympic National Park while you're here at Elwha River; you could always explore Grand Canyon.
