The starting location is a short drive from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Washington and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This stretch of Elwha River in Washington is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(IV) section. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might have to settle for a hotel |
a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of
| good rivers. The campgrounds here at Elwha River are pretty good. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the Hurricane Hill Trail; if time allows, Olympic National Park is a national park worth taking a look at. That right there is
a lot of enjoyable things already but it goes on, the Olympic Mountains has it all. Good hiking is available along the Lillian River Trail; you can hit the slopes at Hurricane Ridge Ski Lodge in the neighborhood. This river
has it all. People from Port Angeles love to come to Elwha River. Summertime highs at Elwha River mostly tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's.
