Washington whitewater, Green River

Cowlitz county, Cascade Creek to gaging station section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     11.7 miles
The beautiful scenery of Cowlitz County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Longview-Kelso it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A good workout
and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Cascade Creek to gaging station section is one of them. You might have to
settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. This stretch of Green River in Washington is 11.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added
bonus. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Green River without first going for a hike along the Fawn Lake Trail. Ike Kinswa State Park is a great place to go if you're at Green River, and glorious hiking is available along the Toutle River Trail. At this river you will never have a bad time. This is a popular place for folks from Mossyrock. A lot of rain falls at Green River. December is the wettest month with most rain, and July is when it's the driest.
