The natural beauty of Jefferson County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. The starting location is a short drive from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. This section is quite short so no need to bring snacks. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a |
short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Olympic Mountains river like this
| one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Park boundary to South Fork Campground stretch of Hoh River - South Fork in Washington is 2.7 miles long and has been rated | |
|
as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Go
for a hike on the Bogachiel-Hoh Trail, and splendid hiking is available along the Bogachiel Trail. But wait, there's more entertaining stuff to do in the Olympic Mountains. Hoh River - South Fork is a wet place that gets
a good deal of rainfall. The wettest month of the year is frequently November, that's the one that rains the most, and July is when it's the driest.
