Also it is important to note that the majority of the land that borders the Kettle River is private property. Says Paul

As of 7/15/2010, stay mid river right, or ride the tongue off to the right side....safe, direct rapid w/ a clean flush....but pretty big water. Says Ian

The starting location is a reasonable drive from Spokane, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The rivers for
whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The wonderful Washington scenery and the cool fresh
water attract people from near and far. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this
river system, there are a few others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section of Kettle River in Ferry/Stevens County is 12.8 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is a pleasant national park; you're sure to encounter some good people from Orient here. Liberty Canyon is a good location to stop at close by. Through the warm days of summer highs here at Kettle River reach the 80's while nighttime lows are frequently in the 40's.
