  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The scenic beauty of Cowlitz County and the water flowing gracefully down Lewis River - North Fork have people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The FR 9039 to Swift Reservoir stretch of Lewis River
    - North Fork in Cowlitz County is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The nearby hotels are a bit
away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. The starting location is a short drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The FR 9039 to Swift Reservoir stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large  
number of good places. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful.

Briefly about the general area:
Eagle Cliffs is an out of the ordinary spot to visit while at Lewis River - North Fork. Take a hike on the Wildcat Trail, and if you're interested in cool geologic characteristics try Point 3670. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Muddy River Trail. Lewis River - North Fork generally gets a great deal of rain. December is when you get the most rain here; the driest of the months is July. For the duration of the summer at Lewis River - North Fork highs are regularly in the 70's.
