  The put-in is not too far from Hood River, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of McCoy Creek in Lewis County is 7.8 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Washington and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming
    back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon
trip. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the milepost 8 to Yellowjacket Creek stretch is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for  
beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

Briefly about the general area:
A trip to Gifford Pinchot National Forest invigorates the spirit, and the Klickitat Trail offers hiking at its best. Whohoo, so much entertaining stuff in one place! The Northern Cascade Range rules! Why not take a refreshing hike along the Pompey Peak Trail. All through the summertime highs here at McCoy Creek reach the 70's with night lows in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at McCoy Creek temperatures fall to the 30's.
