To shallow - to rocky - no water!! Says Dave Devone
If you're coming from Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of King County and the water flowing gracefully down Miller River will make you feel great. The campgrounds here at Miller River are pretty good. On this section you do get some distance, |
it's good length for a morning trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often
| more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This section of Miller River in King County is 4.8 miles long and has been rated as a class IV section by American Whitewater. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the East Fork to NE Old Cascade Highway stretch is just one of them. | |
|
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in
this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: What would winter be without some skiing at Stevens Pass; if you're visiting from Skykomish, you won't be the only one. Not
enough hours in a day to enjoy the Northern Cascade Range. While you're here at Miller River you can take a hike along the Pratt Lake Trail, and you can have a good hiking adventure along the Middle Fork Trail.
