  The wonderful Skamania County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch of Muddy River
    is 5.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great.
And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The starting point is not too far from Hood River, as you can see on the road map further down. There  
are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
The Muddy River Trail offers hiking at its best, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Smith Creek Butte Trail. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Northern Cascade Range. Muddy River is a quite wet place typically with much rainfall. Of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is July. For the duration of the summertime highs here at Muddy River get into the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's.
