Washington whitewater, Naches River

Yakima county, Sawmill Flat to bl. Town of Naches section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     34 miles

On July 19, 2009 we started at Boulder caves, floated for 2 1/2 hours and got out at Squaw Rock resort. The gauge was 50. 3 ft. There was just enough water, any lower and we would have been hitting rocks in the riffles. It was way fun!! The only thing to look out for is the ''Gaunlet''. About 3/4 of the way down. STAY LEFT. There is a large rock that splits the river, if you stay left it is a fun ride, otherwise you will end up plastered
    to the rock.

We were in inflatable kayaks.
Have fun!!

The Sawmill Flat to bl. Town of Naches section of Naches River in Washington is 34 miles long and is according to American Whitewater
a class II-III section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The natural beauty of Yakima County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Ellensburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location,
there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. The campgrounds here at Naches River are pretty good. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
