  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The put-in location is a short drive from Mount Vernon-Anacortes, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The to National Forest Nooksack section of Racehorse Creek in Washington is
    4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nature scenery of Whatcom County and the cool fresh water attract people from near
and far. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great  
exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.

Briefly about the general area:
People from Sumas love to come to Racehorse Creek. During the warm days of summer at Racehorse Creek temperatures are regularly in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while Racehorse Creek night low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's. Racehorse Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation. November is the month that gets the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.
