The starting point is not too far from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The beauty of the Olympic Mountains is a great plus for this river. This is     a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. This stretch of Sam's River is 8 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The scenic beauty of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from   near and far. Briefly about the general area: There is a glorious hiking trail close to Sam's River called the Canyon Creek Hoh Trail, and nearby you locate the Bogachiel-Hoh Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. But wait, there's more fun things to do in the Olympic Mountains. Summertime highs at Sam's River generally tend to be in the 70's while nighttime lows are ordinarily in the 40's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Sam's River dipping down into the 30's throughout winter nights.
