If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Simpson Hatchery to Cook Creek section is just one of   them. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Simpson Hatchery to Cook Creek section of Satsop River - East Fork in Mason County is 8.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places.
