Washington whitewater, Sauk River - North Fork

Snohomish county, Above North Fork Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV+     1.5 miles
The nature scenery of Snohomish County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The Above North Fork Falls section
of Sauk River - North Fork in Snohomish County is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over.
When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Above North Fork Falls stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. If you're coming from Mount
Vernon-Anacortes it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Why not take a refreshing hike along the Meadow Mountain Trail; North Fork Falls is always fun to check out. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Northern Cascade Range. Sauk River - North Fork is next to Penders Canyon which is certainly worth stopping at. The Lost Creek Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best. Sauk River - North Fork is a rather wet place regularly with a great deal of rainfall.
