The wonderful Washington scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Shelton, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. | section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Staircase Rapids is always worthwhile; a tour here wouldn’t be complete without a trip to
close by Lake Cushman State Park. So many entertaining things to do here in the Olympic Mountains, too magnificent to be true. A visit to Olympic National Forest when you're here at Skokomish River - North Fork is a great
idea. Skokomish River - North Fork is a pretty wet place frequently with a good deal of rain. All through December this area sees the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture.
