Washington whitewater, Skookum Creek

Whatcom county, Above lower gorge to South Fork of Nooksack section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     1.25 miles
The put-in location is a short drive from Mount Vernon-Anacortes, as you can see on the road map further down. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Above lower gorge to South Fork of Nooksack stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. You
might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are
great attractions for lots of people. The scenic beauty of Washington and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Skookum Creek is 1.25 miles
long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
