CLASS IV     12.5 miles
  This stretch of Skykomish River - North Fork is 12.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Snohomish County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Bear Creek to South Fork confluence stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Cascade Range is a great experience.
    A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so don't forget that a large number of rivers
in this state are not easy. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The put-in location is a short drive from Mount Vernon-Anacortes, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill  
up quick. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.

Briefly about the general area:
Big Gulch is a great place to explore; while you're here you will meet lots of people from nearby Baring. And if that's not enough there's loads more amusing things to do in the Northern Cascade Range. The skiing at Stevens Pass is good. The warmest time of the year at Skykomish River - North Fork comes with high temperatures in the 70's; the nighttime is somewhat cooler of course, generally in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Skykomish River - North Fork fall into the 20's.
