CLASS III 6.3 miles
|
| |
The Bear Creek to Hatchery stretch of Sol Duc River is 6.3 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The wonderful Washington scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to |
come here and paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Port Angeles, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking
| this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Bear Creek to Hatchery section is just one of many. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while | |
|
are great attractions for lots of people. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly
about the general area: Going for a hike on the Rugged Ridge Trail is always a tremendous adventure, and don't leave Sol Duc River without first paying a visit to Beaver Falls. So many exciting things to do in the Olympic
Mountains, not enough time. Bogachiel State Park is a fine place, and you can go for a hike on the Pass Trail. This river is so great. You're sure to run into some smiling folks from Beaver here.
