If you're coming from Mount Vernon-Anacortes it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great     plus for this river. The Spada Reservoir to Powerhouse section of Sultan River is 11 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington tend to be   more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Through the summertime, highs usually are in the 70's at Sultan River while overnight lows are usually in the 50's.
