Washington whitewater, Tye River

King county, Surprise Creek to Alpine Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     3.25 miles
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Ellensburg, as you can see on the road map further down. The Surprise Creek to Alpine Falls stretch of Tye River in Washington is 3.25 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Surprise Creek to Alpine Falls section is one of them. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure
to keep you coming back for more. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The average Washington whitewater rafting
or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The nature scenery of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Tye River will make you feel great.

Briefly about the general area:
You absolutely should go to Wenatchee National Forest if you're here at Tye River, and don't leave Tye River without first paying a visit to Deception Falls. Man, is there heaps of cool stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range. During your spree to Tye River you'll meet some people from Skykomish for sure; close by you come across the Escondido Trail which is a good hiking trail.
