CLASS IV+     7.2 miles
  The Alpine Falls to Beckler River stretch of Tye River in King County is 7.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV+ section. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting
    and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The put-in is not too far from Ellensburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. There's camping available near Tye River. The wonderful King County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system,  
the Alpine Falls to Beckler River stretch is one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
The skiing at Stevens Pass is great; you can go for a hike on the Escondido Trail. So much cool stuff to do here in the Northern Cascade Range, too great to be true. You'll meet a lot of folks from Skykomish here, and don't leave Tye River without first going for a hike along the Middle Fork Trail. This is such a great river. At Tye River during the months of summer highs are in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Tye River drop into the 30's.
