The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nature scenery of Skamania County and the cool fresh water beats anything. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Prospector's |
Creek to Doc's Drop section of Washougal River is 4.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Prospector's Creek
| to Doc's Drop stretch is just one of many. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all | |

set. The campgrounds here at Washougal River are pretty good. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Why not take a refreshing hike along the Washougal Trail; Shepperds
Dell State Park is worth stopping at. So much cool stuff in the Northern Cascade Range, just extraordinary. Washougal River is right by the Green Leaf Trail, and needless to say, everybody loves Benson State Park. This river
is so great. All the water falling down from the sky makes Washougal River a wet location. December is the wettest month with most rain, and July on the other hand is the driest.
