  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The natural beauty of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further
    down. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This section of Washougal River in Clark/ Skamania County is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section
by American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby,  
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
A tour to Shepperds Dell State Park when you're here at Washougal River is a wonderful idea, and Dougan Falls is a pretty site to stop at while you're at Washougal River. Just can't get enough of the Northern Cascade Range. On a good day at Washougal River you can take a hike along the Green Leaf Trail, and visiting Benson State Park is a tremendous thing to do. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. While you're here at Washougal River you can take a hike along the Washougal Trail.
